Allied Bakeries

Allied Bakeries supplies bread and other ‘morning’ goods to the whole of Great Britain, and manufactures brands such as Kingsmill, Burgen, Allinson and Sunblest. When the company introduced improvements in technology requiring infrastructure changes at its Stoke-on-Trent operation, the existing offices within the warehouse were inadequate. New office accommodation had to be found quickly to house the despatch management team and provide storage space for new equipment.

The key factors influencing the choice of new office accommodation were cost and speed of build.

Despatch Manager, Anthony Bond, says: “We collected quotes from a number of building suppliers who could provide good quality buildings quickly, and at the right price. The reason we chose Portakabin was because, unlike any of its competitors, its building came with comprehensive warranty cover.

All new Portakabin buildings are covered by the Company’s pioneering 5-year product warranty and 20-year structural warranty package. Allied Bakeries chose to buy a robust, British Board of Agrément certified Pacemaker building. This was partitioned to create three separate offices and a storeroom.

Through its unique Customer Charter, Portakabin also promises to deliver all buildings on time and on budget. If it ever fails to meet this commitment, the Company will provide an additional six months’ product warranty on the building.* The Pacemaker building for Allied Bakeries was duly delivered on the agreed date, and installed on site by the Portakabin team with minimal disruption to the despatch centre’s operations.
