Rail engineering company Babcock Rail was contracted by Network Rail to renew and upgrade tracks across England. Babcock Rail needed high-quality, relocatable trackside office accommodation for its on-site personnel, which could be moved repeatedly to different sites as the work moved to new locations.Solution :
Rodney Ackland, Group Property Manager at Babcock Rail, says: “We wanted buildings that could be relocated easily when work in one area was completed, but we also wanted to provide a good quality working environment for our people on site. Portakabin buildings were the obvious choice because of their quality and relocatability. The Portakabin Titan building was perfect for our requirements. It is one of the largest portable buildings on the market, it’s built to a very high specification and it lends itself well to multiple relocation.”
Babcock Rail ordered six of these spacious buildings, to be located at different sites across the country. They were fitted out by Portakabin to the client’s specifications, with internal partition walls creating a mix of open-plan working spaces and smaller individual offices, as well as toilet facilities. The unique size of the Titan building enables the interior to be configured in a wide variety of layouts to suit the needs of individual end users.
The six buildings were delivered to the designated sites on the agreed dates. Such timely deliveries are assured by the unique Portakabin Customer Charter, which promises that all buildings will be delivered on time and on budget. Portakabin even promises that in the unlikely event that we ever fail to meet your contract start date we’ll give you a 1% refund of your contract value for every week we’re late.1
Rodney continues: “We were particularly impressed by the delivery and installation performance of Portakabin. Many of the trackside sites where we work are difficult to access and have their own very strict safety regulations. Portakabin adhered to all the requirements of each site and expertly installed the buildings right on time.”
Some of the buildings have already been relocated successfully to new sites, as work on the rails progresses. These relocations were all managed smoothly and the buildings continue to provide high-quality workspaces.
Rodney adds: “The beauty of the Titan building is that it provides a much better working environment than the other portable building alternatives on the market. The feedback from the people working in them has been, without exception, extremely positive. People find them very spacious, and they appreciate the quality of the build. It’s a hard thing to quantify, but I feel certain these buildings have helped to improve our productivity since we started using them.”
