Annick Marcellin - UK Marketing Manager, Portakabin

Annick has been in her current role as UK Marketing Manager since her promotion in 2008. With a range of responsibilities across both Sales and Hire - her role is diverse.

"Whilst studying in my home country of France, I worked on a placement as a journalist as well as roles within the retail and health sectors. I enjoyed finding out which aspects of these jobs suited me and began to focus on business and languages."

Following on from a BA (Hons) in Business and Languages, as well as an interest in journalism and studies in psychology and engineering, Annick found her affinity with the marketing aspects of business.

"I specialised in export sales and should have naturally become an export sales person. Instead, after a successful work placement in Marketing in the UK, I realised that my interests were here. I recognised that I both loved the role in marketing and the people I was meeting in the UK as well."

After returning to France to complete her studies, Annick became very active with the Students Union. She sought to unite teachers and students in order to facilitate better communication and says that this taught her much that she would later use in her career.

"Public speaking, marketing, politics and negotiation were a large part of my involvement with the Student Union in France and I was challenged to expand my abilities."

But for Annick, the memories of her time in the UK were enticing her back and when she found out about the position with Portakabin in York, seized the opportunity.

"In February 1999 I joined Portakabin as a Marketing Assistant and since that time I have been promoted five times, providing tremendous opportunities for my personal development and growth. In my time here at Portakabin, I have been involved in the promotion of our products and services from the UK to Russia, worked on product development, as well as managed a team (remotely) who are based in France and Holland."

Annick thrives on challenges, people development and diversity and her role offers exactly these things and more.

"The people at Portakabin are great, really friendly and supportive. After University in France, I thought that settling in England would be daunting, but the people here made it so much easier. I find that the opportunity to work with multi-skilled teams of creative and technical people is very enriching.

"Portakabin is also particularly committed to the continued training and development of its employees. I have acquired an advanced certificate in Marketing (CIM) and a certificate in Digital Marketing (IDM) since joining Portakabin, thanks to the Portakabin training programme."
