Requirement: Cheltenham Leisure Centre was inundated with floodwater during the devastating floods of 2007. As the only public leisure centre in the city, it was essential that replacement facilities were set up as quickly as possible. Amenities such as the swimming pool and sports hall could not be replaced in the short term, but the leisure centre was keen to set up whatever temporary fitness facilities it could for the local community.

Solution: The leisure centre's insurer, Zurich Municipal, called in its approved temporary building supplier, Portakabin. Working closely with the leisure centre, Portakabin designed a number of possible solutions for a temporary fitness suite and dance studio, which could be located on a car park adjacent to the flooded building. The leisure centre chose a visually stunning Ultima Vision building, giving an attractive, contemporary appearance.

Portakabin pulled out all the stops to get the complete 391m² building designed, delivered and fully installed in less than a month. The unique Portakabin Customer Charter assures customers of such timely delivery, with its promise that all buildings will be completed on time and on budget. Portakabin even promises that if it ever fails to meet this commitment it will provide a week's free hire for every day it is late.*

The new building features a reception area, a spacious main dance studio and a fitness suite. Portakabin provided a complete one-stop-shop solution, supplying everything from climate-control and alarm systems to carpets and access ramps.
