As part of its redevelopment of Daventry Working Men’s Club and nearby council car park, Ashford Developments needed to provide interim accommodation for club members while their clubhouse was demolished and rebuilt. Unable to find any suitable accommodation in the area, project managers KKAP Consultancy made the decision to provide a temporary building on site.Solution :
Ken Robertson at KKAP Consultancy says: “Portakabin was the first company on our list of possible suppliers. It’s such a well-known name that it seemed the obvious choice, but we did investigate a number of other suppliers too. The quality of the buildings and service from Portakabin were important factors in our decision and ultimately we felt that Portakabin was a name we could trust.
“Choosing a temporary building proved to be the perfect solution, since the alternative rehousing options were very complex. It enabled us to significantly reduce our programme time and our costs. We were able to pass the benefits of the reduced costs directly on to the working men’s club.”
Following discussions to determine the club’s requirements, Portakabin proposed the optimum solution. The accommodation specified was an eight-module building, providing versatile, column-free space. The Portakabin Ultima modular building system is among the most advanced on the market, offering superior energy efficiency – exceeding Part L2 air-permeability requirements by 70% – and a high-quality, comfortable environment for work or leisure.
Inside, the building was configured to provide a function room, a separate bar area and an additional multi-purpose room. There is also an office, a kitchen, a disabled persons’ toilet and a cleaner’s store. Adjoining the main building, Portakabin provided two mains-connected Portaloo toilet units, with full-flushing toilets, hot and cold running water and high-quality sanitary ware.
Ken continues: “The building modules were delivered on the agreed date and the Portakabin team erected the entire structure in just two days. We were delighted when the completed building was then handed over to us two days ahead of schedule.”
Portakabin is committed to delivering all of its buildings on time and on budget – a promise that is set out in its unique Customer Charter. To give customers complete peace of mind, Portakabin even promises that if it ever fails to meet its on-time commitment, it will provide a week’s free hire for every day it is late or an additional 12 months’ warranty on buildings that are purchased.*
Ken adds: “The accommodation provided by the new Portakabin building is clean, bright, airy and functional. The club committee are very happy with the building and people who’ve seen it have been surprised and impressed. It will provide an excellent home for the club until their new building is completed.”
