A rapid rise in student numbers at Hartlepool Sixth Form College, coupled with the demolition of three old classrooms, meant the college desperately needed new teaching accommodation. An enclosed courtyard was the only suitable site for the new facilities.
Solution :
Portakabin designed a two-storey building with classrooms and a toilet block to fit the confined courtyard space. The units had to be lifted over the college buildings and lowered into the central quadrant by crane. The whole building was constructed and ready for use within two weeks.
"The new facilities have significantly increased the teaching space available for our students. Portakabin listened to our requirements and tailored parts of the building to meet our needs. We do have building plans in place for a more traditional classroom block, but we certainly see our Portakabin building as a long-term solution."
