As part of the NHS's "Improving Working Lives" initiative, Morecambe Bay NHS Trust needed to help staff achieve a healthy work-life balance, which included offering good quality, affordable, on-site childcare. The Trust needed a quick solution, as they had less than six months to get the nurseries up and running, but they didn't want to compromise on quality.Solution :
Portakabin designed two Lilliput nurseries to provide full day-care at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital (Barrow-in-Furness). The 58-place nurseries currently care for 52 children, with more joining each week. Both of the Morecambe Bay nurseries are now operated by Kids Unlimited, on behalf of the NHS Trust.
"The Lilliput building offers comfortable surroundings for the children and staff. The facilities that it provides for the children are great, especially the low-level windows which they love. The outside areas are excellent too, and having a covered entrance is a godsend on rainy days, particularly when you're trying to collapse a pushchair!"
Sue Carpenter, New Openings Manager, Kids Unlimited
"It's been really encouraging to see so many children using the nursery, and the feedback from parents has been fantastic. It's reassuring for staff to know that their children are being cared for in a warm, safe, happy environment. In fact, the only tears seem to be when it's time to go home!"
