Keen to increase profits from new product development, Muntons, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of malted ingredients to the food and drinks industry, wanted to create a showpiece building to promote applications of its products to existing customers, channel partners and potential customers. It wanted a single area where product development and application testing could be undertaken to highlight the benefits that malted ingredients could bring to a wide range of food, beverage and baked products. Existing product development facilities were fragmented around its manufacturing site at Stowmarket and needed to be combined into one single ‘Centre for Excellence’.Solution :
Steve Surridge, Engineering Manager at Muntons, Stowmarket, says: “This was a new venture for us so we wanted a building that offered us a lot of flexibility; one that we could easily extend, relocate or reconfigure in future if our needs changed. A modular building was the perfect solution and Portakabin, as the leading name in that sector, was the obvious supplier to contact.
“Our new building needed to be attractive inside and out and offer a premium-quality environment in which to host our potential customers, so I was keen to see what Portakabin could come up with.”
For such a prestigious building, Portakabin recommended its contemporary, thermally efficient, eye-catching Ultima building modules and devised a layout that incorporated all of Muntons’ new product development facilities under one roof.
The building features a plush reception area and client meeting room with wooden floors and full-height windows, a new product development kitchen, bakery and micro-brewery, a sensory room with tasting booths, a photography room where new products are photographed for promotional literature, a sample room where product samples are prepared for despatch to customers, as well as an extensive storage room. Externally, the building is attractively clad in Duraclad panelling to give it the stand-out appearance Muntons was looking for.
Steve continues: “The modules were delivered to site on the agreed date and the building was constructed very efficiently. The Portakabin installation team worked safely and professionally and adhered to all of our strict site safety rules. They were a joy to work with.”
Timely deliveries are a given with Portakabin, since the company has a unique Customer Charter which promises that all buildings will be delivered on time and on budget. The company even promises that if it ever fails to meet this commitment, it will provide an additional 12 months’ product warranty, free of charge.*
The new building was installed and fully fitted out over a six-week period on the Muntons site – a fraction of the time it would have taken to build a traditional structure.
Steve adds: “The new building is excellent, just what we wanted, and we’re very pleased with the way it looks. It’s already attracted lots of compliments from visitors and customers, and really shows off our products in the best possible light. The people who work in the building love it too – it’s such an improvement on the facilities they had before and should really help to boost sales of our new products.”
