Portakabin provides festive donation to local charity

A York-based charity has received a fantastic festive gift in the form of a £500 donation thanks to the Manufacturing Engineering Department at Portakabin

The team decided to donate the money to St. Leonard’s Hospice on Tadcaster Road, after they scooped the top accolade in the company’s annual Safety Awards.

Mike Turnham, Human Resources Director at Portakabin, said, ‘The Manufacturing Engineering Department has an excellent safety record, with the best performance in this area over the last 12 months. The team fully deserves this award, and I’m delighted to say they’ve decided to donate the money to a very deserving local charity.’

Running for the last 10 years, the awards recognise safety-related performance at work, taking into account scheduled safety meetings, initiatives implemented to reduce accidents, and the absence of incidents in the workplace.

Johnathan Ridsdale, Portakabin Plant Maintenance Manager, said, ‘This is the second year running that the department has won the company safety award and we’re delighted once again to be helping another charity in the local area as a result of our success. The award is a credit to the way that the team works when carrying out a wide variety of tasks that vary significantly in terms of hazard and risk. Well done to all the team members for their contribution in winning this award.’

Janet Morley, Director of Fundraising at St. Leonard’s Hospice, said, ‘I’m delighted that the winning team at Portakabin has decided to support us. St. Leonard’s is part of the National Hospice Movement, which is a voluntary and independent service for people with life-threatening illnesses. This money will be used for direct patient care, making a big difference to the quality of life for patients, carers and families that use the hospice. I’d like to say a big thank you to the team and to Portakabin as a whole for their ongoing support.’
