To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the modular building provider’s Plymouth Hire Centre, the company is teaming up with the university’s BA (Hons) Architecture course to launch a competition for students to design the Portakabin Single Modular Building of the Future.
Entrants are required to design the next generation building based on one of the company’s most popular existing buildings. A presentation will take place as part of the Plymouth Hire Centre’s 10th anniversary celebrations on 25th and 26th April, where the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Michael CJ Fletcher, will present the winner with a cheque for £100.
Richard Indans, Hire Centre Manager explains, ‘Students taking courses such as the BA (Hons) Architecture are the people we want to work with in the future. We pride ourselves on being an innovative company with product development featuring heavily in our vision.
‘This competition supports and reinforces our company values, as well as providing an excellent opportunity for us to build good relationships with the next generation of architects.’
David Willey, Deputy Head of Architecture and Design at the University of Plymouth, continues, ‘We’re delighted that Portakabin has chosen to support our first and second year architecture students as part of the Plymouth Hire Centre’s anniversary celebrations.
‘Developing relationships with well-known businesses such as Portakabin is a key priority for us as it exposes the students to the ‘real world’ of business. This really helps them in their studies as it enhances their understanding of how companies that they may work with in the future actually operate.’
The anniversary celebrations at the Plymouth Hire Centre on Embankment Road, Plymouth, will take place on 25th and 26th April, when local businesses from across the region will be invited to come along and celebrate with the Portakabin team.
