Building contactor and joinery manufacturer, Phoenix Contracts, was brought in to complete a £1.89m refurbishment project at Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre in Bishop’s Stortford. The work included building a new state-of-the-art gym, reconstructing changing rooms and offices, and modernising the swimming pool facilities. During the works, the pool was to remain operational, but existing toilet and shower facilities had to be demolished. That meant interim changing rooms had to be provided.Solution :
Andy O’Donnell, Sales and Marketing Manager at Phoenix Contracts, says: “We needed to ensure that the short-term changing facilities maintained the high standards expected by visitors to the leisure centre. Portaloo products provided the kind of quality environment we were looking for, with spacious, well-proportioned facilities fitted out with high specification showers, toilets and sinks. We were also impressed by the company’s flexibility, working closely with us to assess our needs and develop the right solution for this specific project.”
This solution comprised seven high-quality, all-steel buildings, including a female and a male toilet building, a female and a male changing room and shower building, one disabled persons’ toilet and shower unit and a group changing room, plus a spacious Portakabin Titan building for use as a gym.
The Portakabin Titan is the largest single relocatable building in Europe, which means the interior can be configured to meet any end users’ specific requirements, whatever the application. For this project, it provided the ideal bright, robust accommodation for the leisure centre’s interim gym facilities.
The Portaloo buildings were fully fitted out with domestic-standard, full-flushing toilets and high-quality showers, plus lockers in the changing rooms. These mains-connected amenities provided a home-from-home experience for visitors to the leisure centre throughout the building programme.
It was essential that the buildings were installed on the agreed date to ensure the construction project remained on schedule. All Portaloo customers are assured of timely deliveries by the unique Portaloo Customer Charter, which promises that all buildings will be delivered on time and on budget. To back up this pledge, Portaloo even promises that if it ever fails to deliver on time, it will provide a week’s free hire for every day it is late.*
True to its promise, Portaloo delivered all of the buildings on time, and connected and installed them in under a week. The buildings were seamlessly linked to the existing leisure centre building to create a fully integrated facility for visitors.
Andy O’Donnell adds: “The installation went very well, and was expertly managed by the Portaloo team. We are really happy with the high specification of the buildings provided, which will remain on hire for the duration of the building project. The service provided by Portaloo before, during and after the installation was responsive, helpful and professional.”
