In 2016 modular construction pioneer Portakabin raised £56,000 for 62 different charities in the UK and Ireland.
Portakabin, which is well-known for its dedication to corporate social responsibility, has an internal network responsible for encouraging fundraising in every area of operation.
The Portakabin York site staff raised an impressive £27,000 for their chosen charity, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, throughout 2015 and 2016 through various events and challenges.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves a population of 5 million people across the UK’s largest county. Unknown to many, the charity only receives seconded paramedics from the NHS and relies entirely on donations from individuals and organisations to save lives.
Throughout 2015 and 2016 Portakabin organised five “dress down” days and two “Bake Off” competitions to raise funds. The company sold over 3,000 raffle tickets and 41 pairs of handmade Christmas earrings as well as recycling one tonne of fabric and 800 mobile phones.
Almost half of the funds raised for the charity came from the annual Dragon Boat race organised by the York Rotary Club. Over 40 Portakabin staff members took part in the 2015 and 2016 races and all funds raised were generously match funded by the Shepherd Group’s Community Support fund.
Stuart Norris, Senior Product Development Engineer at Portakabin organised a fund raising challenge of his own by cycling coast to coast. Starting in Lytham, Stuart cycled 210 miles to Whitby in 12 hours and 52 minutes. His efforts raised an astonishing £6,793.54.
Derek Carter, Chief Executive of Portakabin said “It’s been a pleasure to partner with Yorkshire Air Ambulance and to raise money for their vital work. I’m very proud of our York team and the dedication to their chosen charity.”
