Building Option - Ramps & Access Steps

Ramps and Steps

Provide easy access for all to your building with fully compliant ramps and access steps

Whether you hire or buy your modular or portable cabins from Portakabin, we can supply high-quality ramps and access steps to provide easy access and ensure you fulfil all regulatory requirements. You can also create an attractive entrance feature with our choice of canopies and walkways.

Ramps and access steps that comply with the latest access and fire regulations
For hired buildings we offer smart, modular ramps and steps for hire. These can easily be adapted to suit your site and, because they are modular, they can easily be reconfigured if your needs change. For purchased buildings, we can construct permanent concrete or wooden ramps or access steps that provide fully compliant access to your building.

The Equality Act 2010 and Part M of the Building Regulations require that you provide easy access to ALL new and existing buildings that are larger than 30m2 and will be sited for more than 28 days – whether they are permanent or temporary, and regardless of their use. All of the ramps and access steps we provide fulfil the requirements of this legislation. If you'd like to know more, take a look at our answers to frequently asked questions about building access.

The modular ramps and steps available for HIRE are:

Techramp - for buildings larger than 30m2
This unique, highly engineered, attractive aluminium ramp has been specially designed to provide full compliance with the requirements of Part M of the Building Regulations, BS8300:2009 and Equality Act 2010 guidelines. It features handrails that are anti-slip, colour contrasting and not cold to the touch, as well as colour-contrasting landings, slopes and kick plates for improved visibility. Surfaces are slip-resistant, with a maximum incline of 1:15 to meet BS8300:2009 recommendations and a minimum unobstructed width of 1.5m to meet Part M and Equality Act guidelines.

Steel ramp -for buildings smaller than 30m2
Our standard modular steel ramp is designed for buildings with a floor area smaller than 30m2 or buildings of any size that will be sited for less than 28 days. It has a 1.2m unobstructed width to give 'reasonable provision' for disabled access. The all-steel frame and handrails provide high durability and the ramp has slip-resistant surfaces.

Steel access steps
These safe, durable steps are ideal for emergency fire escape staircases. Suitable for single or double fire doors, they have slip-resistant treads and landings and meet all building and fire regulation requirements.

If you are buying your building, we will design and install suitable ramped and stepped access systems to ensure your building meets all regulatory requirements.

“We needed to ensure the temporary building provided a high standard of accommodation, since it would be on site for three years. For some undergraduates it would be their base for their entire degree course. The Portakabin Ultima building provided this high quality of working environment, and enabled us to create the large wide-open column-free space we needed for a multi-purpose room on the ground floor.”

Martin Renshaw, Design Services Deputy Manager

“Portakabin were very fast, very effective and very proactive throughout the project. It was incredible how quickly they got the building in place. They kept us fully informed and involved, right from the design stage through to coordinating the delivery and fitting out the building. Everyone is really pleased with the finished product.”

Stephen Petherick, Site Commercial Manager
