Reed Boardall, a major temperature-controlled haulage company, needed to replace two aging buildings on site, which were used to house its archive documents. The buildings were becoming dilapidated, putting valuable paperwork at risk of damage. A secure, durable, permanent new building was required to house all of the company’s archive records.Solution :
Marcus Boardall, Group Finance Director at Reed Boardall, says: “We were looking for a building of a much better quality than the ones already on our site. Portakabin demonstrated the durability and strength of its buildings and explained the benefits of the all-steel structure, which gave us the confidence that they would provide the quality, security and longevity we were looking for.”
Portakabin recommended the largest of its Solus building models, which provides 35m2 of floor space within a structurally robust and aesthetically pleasing building. Reed Boardall requested a bespoke building with no windows, to increase internal storage capacity and improve security levels.
The building was designed to provide a complete, ready-to-use storage facility. Portakabin fitted out the interior with heavy-duty shelving racks and reinforced the floor to provide a 7kN loading, ensuring it could comfortably support the weight of documentation to be housed inside.
Marcus adds: “We needed the building as soon as possible because we were temporarily storing our files in our maintenance garage, which wasn’t ideal. Portakabin delivered the building to site ahead of schedule and we were very pleased with the way the installation was handled.”
The building was positioned in a tight location between a large office building and a high hedge. Portakabin craned it into place, lowering it precisely on to previously prepared concrete pad foundations.
