Housed in an impressive 150-room gothic mansion built around 1850, Scarisbrick Hall School is a private school catering for children to 16 years of age. While the main building provides exemplary teaching and learning space in its unique setting, extending the school facilities has proved problematic due to planning constraints. The school was keen to create an Advanced Learning Centre for one-to-one tuition and needed an attractive, eye-catching facility to complement its architecturally striking main building.Solution :
Gill Head, Portakabin Merseyside Hire Centre Manager, says: “The building was needed for the start of the new term in September and time was running out. The school Directors came to us to see what we could offer, stressing that appearance and build quality were of paramount importance to them. We took them to see a recently installed Ultima Vision building, and they were impressed by the building’s stunning aesthetics.”
The Ultima Vision modular building system features floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interior with natural light. Inside, the buildings provide a comfortable working environment all year round, thanks to excellent insulation.
The school decided to hire a spacious, open-plan Ultima Vision building to house its Advanced Learning Centre. The order was placed in mid-August and the building needed to be finished by early September.
Portakabin swung into action to ensure the facility was completed on time. The short timescale meant the school wasn’t able to organise its own foundations contractor, so Portakabin stepped in to complete the groundworks ahead of building delivery.
The lorries delivering the building modules had to carefully negotiate a narrow, tree-lined service road to the rear of the estate. The modules were then craned into position over a grassed area, without damaging the lawns. Portakabin installed the building right on schedule and then fitted it out to provide the modern, attractive learning environment the school was looking for.
The building was completed and ready for use on 1 September, living up to the Portakabin promise that every project will be delivered on time and on budget. The promise is made in the unique Portakabin Customer Charter, which also promises that if the company ever fails to deliver on time, it will provide a week’s free hire for every day it is late.*
Gill adds: “The school Directors are absolutely delighted with the new building, which meets all of their aesthetic requirements, as well as their high quality expectations. It provides precisely the contemporary, welcoming and inspiring environment they wanted for one-to-one teaching.
“The building is initially on hire for three years, but the school can always extend that period if it decides to use our building as a long-term solution.”
