A £500,000 project to refurbish two sports centres at
Paul Henderson, Project Manager at AA Projects, says: “I’d worked with Portakabin in the past, so I knew they could provide the quality of buildings we needed, and I trusted them to deliver everything on schedule. I was put in touch with sister company Portaloo and was delighted when the quote provided came in well under budget, enabling us to redirect funds into further improvements at the sports centres.”
Portaloo worked fast to devise changing room layouts that met the needs of each campus and the limitations of the small footprints available at each site.
For Stoke, a unique and versatile new configuration was developed, featuring a central building fitted out entirely with perimeter bench seating, connected on each side to two fully equipped shower, toilet and changing buildings. The combined 80m2 complex could be used to provide one large fully integrated single-sex facility, or be divided into separate male and female changing areas.

Paul says: “Following budgetary approval from the university, Portaloo only had a couple of days to get the buildings on site. They pulled out all the stops to get both buildings delivered right on schedule. The on-site teams did a brilliant job, installing and connecting the buildings in a single day, causing no disruption whatsoever to students.”
The installation at Stoke required the closure of one of the internal campus roads, so Portaloo arranged to deliver the building over a weekend, to minimise disruption. That meant the changing rooms were completed and ready for use by students on the Monday morning.
