Stoke Newington School needed to be rebuilt and remodelled under the Government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. The initiative is the biggest ever school building investment programme in the UK. It aims to rebuild or renew nearly every secondary school in England. All schools face challenges whenever building work is undertaken in terms of site safety, budget constraints and minimisation of disruption to learning. Part of the requirement was finding a company with a track record of meeting those complex challenges.Solution :
Peter Stasiuk, Pre-Construction Project Manager at Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd says: "When we approached Portakabin on behalf of Stoke Newington School we felt very confident in the company's credentials - particularly its approved supplier status to Zurich Municipal and Buying Solutions accreditation. Its valuable Customer Charter gave us the peace of mind that it could deliver this large project to high-quality standards, on time and on budget."
Willmott Dixon and Stoke Newington School were very impressed with the speed at which Portakabin delivered the facilities. Peter continues: "The best thing about dealing with Portakabin was how quickly they reacted to our requests. Whether we needed additional prices, specifications or drawings, the team turned it around straight away. Plus, they delivered the new school on time, with no issues whatsoever!"
Portakabin has extensive expertise in delivering high-quality education buildings and excellent working relationships with many local authorities and contractors across the UK. This makes it ideally placed to assist with the delivery of BSF projects.
Buying Solutions accreditation means that your organisation can cut through the time-consuming tender process, saving up to 77 days procurement time. When you choose Portakabin, you will also take delivery of your building 50% faster than traditional construction and have a peace of mind pledge that the building will be delivered on time and on budget. The unique Portakabin Customer Charter states that if a building project is not delivered on time and on budget, you will be entitled to a week's free hire for every day the building is late.*
Portakabin worked closely with the school and Willmott Dixon to remodel the buildings to provide state-of-the art facilities that would meet BSF criteria. Forty technically-advanced Portakabin Ultima modules were used to create two high-quality classroom blocks, fully-fitted and ready to move into. Together, the buildings provide over 1565m² of classroom space across two storeys.
The convenient one-stop-shop service that Portakabin offers to all its clients was used to deliver a complete educational facility that incorporated access ramps and steps, fire alarms, intruder alarms, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.
Peter says: "Portakabin was very well-informed about Building Schools for the Future and very helpful throughout the dialogue. Working with Portakabin meant that we could maintain a common approach across the BSF programme for Hackney."
