Requirement: Rapid expansion at the Aberdeen base of Technip - a global leader in engineering, technologies and project management for the oil and gas industry - meant that additional office accommodation was needed fast. The company occupies a variety of buildings on a ten-and-a-half acre site in Aberdeen, so it was essential that the new building could be erected safely and efficiently on such a busy working site.

Solution: Alison Stephen, Facilities Manager at Technip, says: "We had an immediate need due to an increased headcount, so modular buildings were seen as the best solution. We liked the look and quality of the buildings offered by Portakabin, as well as the all-inclusive service offered by the Hire Centre team."

The building needed to house around 50 people in open-plan offices, so Portakabin recommended its attractive, energy-efficient and high-performance Ultima modular system. A suitable location on the Aberdeen site was identified and Portakabin quickly set about managing the project and preparing the groundworks.

Health and Safety is particularly important on a site like ours and Portakabin observed the strictest safety standards at all times."

The Health and Safety requirements for this site were particularly onerous. All paperwork for all equipment and personnel had to be checked and verified, and everyone connected with the project had to undergo detailed safety inductions. Portakabin complied with all of these rigorous requirements to complete a smooth and efficient installation.

The two-storey Ultima building was delivered just six weeks after the order was placed, providing more than 450m² of bright, versatile office space for the project teams who would be housed there. The building incorporates large open-plan areas, a meeting room, toilets and a kitchen. The complete turn-key package provided by Portakabin included a climate-control system for the building, helping to maintain a comfortable working environment all year round.

The building was completed and handed over on the agreed date, as promised by the unique Portakabin Customer Charter. This assures customers that all buildings will be delivered on time and on budget. For complete peace of mind, Portakabin even promises that if it ever fails to meet this commitment, it will provide a week's free hire for every day it is late.*

Alison adds: "The people who have moved into the Portakabin building are delighted with their new offices. Many of them have moved from much older buildings on the site and they are overjoyed with the light, spacious, air-conditioned environment they now work in.
