Thames Valley Police needed overflow office accommodation for staff during a major refurbishment programme. Many of the staff were decanted into existing office space, but additional interim office accommodation had to be found for around 50 people. The force decided to set up a self-contained compound for these offices at its Sulhamstead training site, and set about looking for a suitable building supplier.Solution :
Nigel Heinrich, Project Surveyor at Thames Valley Police, says: “We had built up a good working relationship with Portakabin on previous projects and knew we could rely on them to deliver within our very short timescales. With Portakabin being an approved Buying Solutions supplier, it means we can make significant time savings in the procurement of interim buildings for projects.”
Buying Solutions is an Executive Agency of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and is the national procurement partner for the public sector. Public-sector buyers can choose Buying Solutions-approved suppliers without the need to go through a lengthy and potentially costly tendering process, since all approved suppliers have been pre-assessed for quality and value for money.
Portakabin recommended its premium-quality Ultima modular buildings as the ideal solution for Thames Valley Police. The modules were configured to create four separate 15-person office blocks. Portakabin provided a complete one-stop-shop solution, which included fire alarms, emergency lighting, data connections and furniture.
Nigel continues: “Access to this site was very tricky, along narrow country lanes, and the installation required careful handling as the site features a listed wall and listed gates. We trusted Portakabin to manage this sensitive operation, and they didn’t let us down. Everything went without a hitch on the agreed date. The organisation was brilliant and took a great weight off our shoulders.”
