When NHS Lanarkshire needed to build extensions to its Greenhills General Practitioner and dental surgeries, it immediately turned to Portakabin, the leading modular building supplier, to provide a high-quality solution.

Portakabin had recently installed an antenatal unit at Queen Margaret's Hospital, Dunfermline. The dental extension comprised of seven Portakabin Ultima modules with a floor area of 162 sqm, providing the dental practice with four fully equipped additional dental surgeries, a state-of-the-art decontamination room, staff toilets and changing areas, compressor room and stores, all of which comply with Scottish Health Technical Memorandums. Portakabin fitted the decontamination room with a ventilation system and also worked closely with the dental supply technician who fitted specialist patient chairs and equipment.

The GP extension is made up of four Portakabin Ultima modules giving a floor area of 124 sqm, providing the GP practice with an additional three consulting rooms, one health visitors' room, an office for the Practice Manager and a library/meeting room for the practice GPs. Portakabin also equipped the extension with a functional kitchen, heating system and an intruder prevention system (IPS).

Both buildings were linked to different sections of the existing medical centre, necessitating services to be extended from an existing plant room to the new extensions. All works were completed in compliance with specified SHTMs, HTMs, SHTNs and stringent infection-control requirements.
