Organisation : Air Atlantique

Building Use : Offices, Transport

Product : Cabins, Modular Buildings

Location : Newquay

Requirement :

Newquay Airport’s Classic Air Force museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of iconic aircraft from the 1950s and 1960s. It is operated by the charity, Classic Aircraft Trust, and works with Air Atlantique.

The Trust looks after the aircraft collection and keeps it in working condition for the benefit of the public.

Following the decision to relocate, from Coventry Airport to Newquay Airport, Air Atlantique required additional office accommodation as the flight centre in Newquay was too small. This was needed in order for staff to carry out administrative tasks for the day-to-day running of the museum.

Solution :

Air Atlantique has worked with Portakabin (Refurbished) on a number of earlier projects. This latest scheme was sustainably constructed at Newquay Airport using five recycled and refurbished steel-framed modules to accommodate around 10 staff members. The layout is open plan with wall partitions and a central office. This provides Classic Air Force with additional work space, freeing up room in the flight centre.

Portakabin (Refurbished) delivered the building just four weeks from receipt of order. It was supplied around 70 per cent complete, with doors, windows, flooring, and electrics all pre-installed, providing the museum with a fast and cost-effective alternative to new manufacture or new build.

The Benefits of Recycled and Refurbished Portakabin Buildings

Portakabin (Refurbished)’ recycled and refurbished modular buildings are manufactured by Portakabin. The approach is highly cost effective and a faster solution to new build, reducing programme times by up to 70 per cent. The facilities can also easily be expanded, reconfigured or removed from site for complete flexibility to meet changing needs. In addition, customers can benefit from bigger buildings and a higher specification compared to what is achievable with new build or manufacture, for the same budget.

Other advantages of this approach include:

  • Off-site working is maximised for safer, quieter and cleaner sites and reduced disruption to working environments during construction – a key benefit on busy airport sites
  • High quality steel-framed modular buildings are built to last
  • The buildings require fewer ground works than site-based construction – further reducing cost, disruption and programme times
  • The buildings can be supplied decorated or fully refurbished for a wide variety of interim or permanent applications.

“We’re already very familiar with Portakabin (Refurbished) having purchased a number of refurbished and recycled buildings from the company over the last ten years. Moving from Coventry to Newquay was a huge project in itself, and it would have been too costly and time consuming to build a new office conventionally.”

“The Portakabin (Refurbished) building structures are solid, robust and fitted out to suit our specialist requirements, which is exactly what we need. We would definitely recommend Portakabin (Refurbished) to other organisations.”
