After substantial residential development in the area, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham awarded Portakabin with the largest ever offsite education contract – a £44 million project to deliver a three-school campus, providing teaching space for more than 2,700 children aged 0-19. The project would need to be phased in order to deliver priority space for its special educational needs (SEN) students whose current facility could no longer accommodate them.
Solution :Nick Griffin, General Manager for Sales at Portakabin comments: “Over two phases, we installed almost 390 steel-framed modules with concrete floors on the six-hectare brownfield site. "An offsite approach provided a faster and more accurate construction programme which was vital for a project of this size. As disruption to site is significantly reduced with offsite methods, Riverside Bridge students could attend school safely while we constructed the primary and secondary school buildings.”
”Providing a modern, high-quality environment where the young people of our borough can learn can only be beneficial for the future. It’s just one of the many fantastic improvements taking place across the borough and it shows Barking and Dagenham is as good as anywhere to give young people the best start to their education.”
