When Berkeley Homes required site accommodation that offered environmental benefits, they had no hesitation in appointing Portakabin Site Accommodation to supply high-quality facilities.
The construction of the new residential destination in North Bersted,West Sussexof more than 400 new houses and apartments meant that high-quality office and recreation facilities would be required for five years to serve over 50 workers on site.Solution :
Berkeley Homes ordered six Konstructa Energy-Saver buildings comprising two office units, one drying room, one toilet and shower unit, as well as a kitchen unit and a canteen that will deliver significant cost savings and a 32% reduction in energy use compared to traditional site cabins.
Robert Newell, Senior Buyer for Berkeley Homes says: "We are really impressed with the specification of the units Portakabin Site Accommodation supplied.
"The site buildings needed to fulfil a number of purchasing requirements. They had to be high-quality yet competitively priced, with low operating costs but also environmentally friendly to meet the criteria of our Internal Sustainability Advisers. They also needed to be consistent with the high internal specification of the houses and apartments in development."
The buildings feature energy efficient lighting measures, including high frequency lighting with time clocks and Passive Infrared (PIR) motion detection sensors, to ensure lights are always switched off when not in use. Improved heat transmission values and lower heating bills are also delivered through the use of double glazed tinted glass.
Designed to reduce water wastage and deliver significant water usage cost savings, the wash room features low volume dual flush WC / urinal cisterns and push button taps.
Robert Newell added: "Upon making our decision on which supplier to use, we were really impressed with the potential savings we can make through the environmental features of the units.
The creation of sustainable communities is one of the cornerstones of Berkeley Homes' business strategy and by reducing energy consumption on a daily basis the benefits of saving money and minimising impact on the environment will be considerable over the duration of the five-year project."
