Construction company HT Forrest was appointed by City West Housing Trust to completely refurbish the 20-storey Charter House apartment block in Eccles. The project involved fully updating 120 apartments, including fitting new bathrooms and kitchens, as well as replacing all windows and cladding the building exterior. The company needed to provide extensive on-site office and welfare buildings for its workforce throughout the 60-week project.Solution :
Barry Hodson, Site Manager for HT Forrest, says: “We wanted the highest standard of site facilities for our teams, and Portakabin Site Accommodation buildings were recommended to us. We went to visit some installed modular buildings and were impressed by their quality, spaciousness and cleanliness, which exceeded anything we’d seen before.”
HT Forrest chose to hire a pair of two-storey modular buildings from Portakabin Site Accommodation, to be located adjacent to the tower block. The space available on site was limited, so Portakabin Site Accommodation recommended its smaller 7.2m modules to fit the restricted footprint. The buildings were configured to provide offices, canteen, drying room, induction room and meeting room facilities for the on-site workforce.
The site was prepared by HT Forrest before Portakabin Site Accommodation took charge of the building installation. The company has developed a no-ladder installation technique for its modular buildings, which means they can be installed safely from ground level, with no need to access the roof.
Barry continues: “Portakabin Site Accommodation managed the entire installation on this constrained site very safely and professionally. The on-site team were very helpful and the whole process went without a hitch.”
Choosing Portakabin Site Accommodation modular building enabled construction site workers to benefit from larger, more spacious facilities than is possible with more conventional stand-alone site cabins. The buildings for HT Forrest were supplied complete with all fittings and furniture, ready for use.
