International construction company, John Sisk & Son (Sisk), was appointed main contractor for a major residential development in Manchester. Extensive site office and welfare facilities were required for around 200 site-based personnel working on the high-profile project. Sisk demands very high standards of quality, sustainability and energy-efficiency for its site accommodation.Solution :
Simon Adams, Project Director for Sisk, says: “We had been let down at the last minute by one building supplier, so our buying department recommended Portakabin Site Accommodation, based on past experience of its building quality, service levels and safety standards. Because of the short notice, I didn’t expect them to be able to meet our original deadline, but they were positive they could do it from the outset and incredibly they delivered everything we needed in just eight weeks.”
Sisk wanted large open-plan offices, which meant Konstructa Modular buildings were the perfect choice. This versatile building system provides spacious, comfortable, energy-efficient workspaces that achieve an Energy Performance Asset ‘A’ rating.
To house such a large number of people on the limited site footprint, Portakabin Site Accommodation proposed a three-storey site building. Portakabin Site Accommodation was able to fulfil all of Sisk’s stringent safety requirements using its unique no-ladder installation technique. This meant the entire three-storey structure could be built from ground level, with no need to access the roof or work at height.
Simon continues: “The installation went very well. Everything was completed to the highest standard, with close coordination between Portakabin Site Accommodation, the site team and the project-management team to ensure the building was installed safely and on schedule.”
The building was configured to meet Sisk’s specific requirements, with large open-plan offices and kitchen facilities on the ground floor, a spacious canteen and toilets on the first floor and an induction room and meeting rooms on the top floor.
Simon adds: “People working here are very happy with the facilities and many people have commented on the quality of the building. It is as good as anything we’ve experienced on site before.”
